Snowmobile Night cruise

The signature icon of Yamagata Zao’s spectacular winter scenery is the world-famous “juhyo,” or tree ice. These ice trees are affectionately called Snow Monsters, and are scattered across the the field and illuminated from sunset to evening. You can experience these Snow Monsters up close on the Night Cruiser tour.

It’s a special tour that takes you on a special snowmobile and takes you to slopes and routes which most people normally couldn’t ride on.

Reservations are required for the three tours at 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00 p.m.

Dondendaira Snow Park

Iide Town experiences one of the heaviest snowfalls in Japan’s Tohoku, northern Honshu region. Here you can find the Dondendaira Snow Park, a fun place to play in the snow. Visitors can go down a giant slide on a big tire tube, ride a snowmobile, or have fun on a banana boat pulled away by a snowmobile. Both kids and adults can have a fun time playing fun in the snow. This experience tour is very popular among international visitors experiencing snow for the very first time.

"Yamaga Maiko and Ozashiki Play Experience Tour

This tour is meant to introduce traditional Japanese culture to an international audience. The term Ozashiki games is a common name for playing with maiko (apprentice geisha), and it refers to enjoying drinks and games with maiko(apprentice geisha) and geiko (shamisen players) in a high-class Japanese restaurant. We recommend experiencing this at lunchtime in the traditional kura-zashiki room at the Yamagata Marugotokan Beni no Kura.

As much as possible, early reservations are required for least one month. Interested parties are asked to inquire.

The Samurai Experience Tour at the birthplace of Iaido

Murayama City in Yamagata Prefecture is home to the only Iaido shrine in Japan. Legend has it that Jinsuke Hayashizaki lost his father in an assassination 470 years ago, and while training to avenge his father’s death, he was taught the art of Iaido from a deity in a dream.

During this experience tour, participants will change into a traditional do-i gear and learn the spirit and form of Iai from an instructor who will help you use and experience this defense tool with confidence. Participants who complete this tour will have a real experience using such a historical weapon. This tour is very popular among international visitors.

The Mogamikyo Basho Line Boat Tour

The Mogami Gorge Basho Line Boat Ride is one of the largest boat rides in Japan, starting from Furukuchi Port (Tozawa Clan’s boat guard station) and ending at Kusanagi Port (River Station, Mogami Gorge Kusanagi), with a total route length of 12 kilometers.

The Mogami River is famous as one of the three fastest rivers in Japan, and the Mogami Gorge (Tozawa Village), offering some of the best sceneries at its basin, is popular among international tourists.

The boat ride down the Mogami Gorge with its scenic view while listening to the boatman’s boat song was selected as No. 1 in the “30 Best Water Sightseeing Boats” by Professionals in 2022.

Its painting-like picturesque scenery in the wintertime is also beautiful. You can also enjoy the scenery in different seasons, such as spring when the mountain cherry blossoms are reflected in the fresh greenery, summer when the clouds are drifting in, and autumn when the leaves are tinted red.

The Kendama Painting Experience

The kendama is a toy consisting of a cross-shaped sword and a ball with a hole in it, and is played in Japan and in other countries. Nagai City is the largest producer of competitive kendama in Japan.

You can paint your own kendama in your favorite color of choice and take it home. Kendama champions will welcome you and show you their amazing kendama skills and exhibition tricks. You will be sure to clap your hands in delight.

The venue is a renovated 100-year-old former elementary school building in the town of Nagai. The ambience will make you experience a journey through time experiencing traditional Japanese school life.

The Oguni Mushroom Garden Mushroom Barbecue

Surrounded by 90% forestry, Oguni Town has long been famous in Japan for its mushrooms. It is said that Oguni was the first place in the country to standardize the quality of mushroom cultivation. Visitors can pick all the mushrooms they want at the Oguni KINTAKE Kobo, a mushroom factory, and experience a mushroom barbecue. After the mushroom harvest, a popular activity course among visitors is to drop by a roadside station to buy shorthorn beef sausages and other souvenirs.
